One Platform, Multiple Missions: PTDI Delivers NC212i Troop Transport, Rainmaking & Camera Aircraft to the Indonesian Air Force
Bandung (July 30) – PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) (PTDI) has completed another delivery under its contract with Indonesia's Ministry of Defense, handing over one NC212i aircraft in a special Troop Transport, Rainmaking & Camera configuration to the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU). The aircraft is the eighth of nine NC212i units ordered by the Ministry of Defense. Today's delivery saw the aircraft complete its ferry flight from PTDI's Delivery Center hangar in Bandung to Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang, underscoring the company's continued commitment to strengthening the Air Force's operational readiness with aircraft tailored to its mission needs.
The NC212i in its Troop Transport, Rainmaking & Camera configuration is built to handle a wide range of operational demands, from personnel transport to weather modification operations and aerial photography missions. This versatility highlights just how adaptable the NC212i platform is to different user requirements, allowing it to carry out diverse missions effectively. To further enhance performance and operational comfort, the aircraft has been fitted with MTV-27 propellers manufactured by Germany's MT Propeller and certified by EASA. These propellers offer a number of advantages, including lower noise levels, more stable performance during single-engine operation at altitude, and smoother engine starts without the usual jolt. Proven to work seamlessly with the Honeywell TPE331 engine, the MTV-27 propellers help boost the aircraft's overall performance while reducing vibration and noise—translating into greater comfort and operational efficiency.
During the event, PTDI's Production Director, Dena Hendriana, along with the NC212i program team, personally inspected the aircraft—tail number AX-2135—ahead of its handover to Air Squadron 4 in Malang. The aircraft was flown by Lieutenant Colonel (Pilot) Andika Ardyagana as Pilot in Command for the ferry flight, with Captain Irvan Fajar serving as copilot. The aircraft had earlier received its Flight Acceptance Certificate on July 9, 2026.
"Alhamdulillah, today we're carrying out the ferry flight. This is part of our commitment to fulfilling the order from Indonesia's Ministry of Defense. This is the eighth of nine units ordered. God willing, this aircraft will strengthen the Air Force fleet based in Malang and contribute to safeguarding the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. We hope the ferry flight from Bandung to Malang goes smoothly, that the crew stays safe and healthy, and that they arrive safely in Malang," said Dena Hendriana, PTDI's Production Director.
Lieutenant Colonel (Pilot) Andika Ardyagana added, "In terms of aircraft performance, we ran a development flight yesterday. Alhamdulillah, the aircraft was able to reach its maximum capability, so once the ferry flight is complete, it will move on to acceptance by the Ministry of Defense and the Air Force. We hope this aircraft will add to the Air Force's strength in defending Indonesia's sovereignty. On behalf of the Air Force, we also hope PTDI continues to grow and is able to support all government programs, helping meet Indonesia's defense needs as the nation moves toward Indonesia Maju."
The eight NC212i units PTDI has delivered to the Air Force so far have each been configured to match specific operational needs, spanning Troop Transport, Rainmaking & Camera, and Navigation Training roles. This range of configurations reflects the NC212i platform's ability to support a wide variety of missions, while also demonstrating PTDI's capability to deliver aerospace solutions tailored to its customers' needs. The ninth and final NC212i unit is scheduled to be completed and delivered in October 2027, which will mark the completion of PTDI's contract to supply nine NC212i aircraft to Indonesia's Ministry of Defense for the Air Force—another milestone in the company's ongoing commitment to strengthening the nation's air defense capabilities.
